Eclipse EGit: The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect

So, I’ve been spending my last 3 hours trying to debug the error I got while trying to clone a git repository. I’ve tried re-re-re-re-installing Eclipse, EGit plugin, everything from scratch, but nothing, still got the error. Just to mention, I use Eclipse on Windows 7 (but the issue will be the same on any other Windows platforms). After that, I tried to clone it on a Linux VM, which worked just fine. So I entered the cloned folder, and then issued a “ls -alR” (recursive listing), and this is what I got among other files:

WHAT?!?! Just to be sure, I tried to create a file with the same name on my Windows laptop, of course, didn’t work. So, when you get this error while trying to clone a git repository, is the filenames in that repository for sure.
